I don't even know...

Wow. I'm surprised I'm still getting views, I've been off the blog for so long.  but it's a good reinforcement, I figure it's about time to get back on here.

First of all - a fun doodle.
"Ninja Lobster" sketch.

The last post I did about 5 minutes before this one is the first page of a comic idea that hit me a few nights ago, I think this is more of what I want to do comic wise, and it's going to be 100% solo, and other than a rough concept of what the story is, I'll just be making it up as I go. Why the hell not. just for fun, no schedule, no pressure or demand. I'm pretty excited about it. I'll post the pages separately without comment or anything, that way they'll be easier to find, and BS free. Who knows, maybe something will come of it and a schedule will form, and if I get far enough, I'll print a physical comic.

This is a character in my new comic, AfterWorld.

So even though I haven't been updating on the blog, I have, as always been hard at work on a multitude of projects, and learning how to better manage myself (a lifelong process it seems). So I am preparing to show more of what I have been up to, and get some art up here. there will be a few other announcements to be made, that I will make here first. hopefully sooner than later.

Summer is almost over here in Phoenix, and for us, we're excited to see it go. Humidity just doesn't go well with 110'F heat... I'll see you around. thanks for reading!

Steampunk Death

This is a recent piece I'm working on. Looking to tattoo it at the Timeless Ink Tour - which is turning out to be a bit of a big deal around town. I think the design will be a lot of fun. I have to admit tho, it's not entirely original, the piece was heavily inspired by another, and I made a few changes. It has also inspired a few other pieces I will be working on soon in the same theme. I guess I'll have to go through a "steampunk phase" here, and crank out some new stuff.

Out of the frying pan...

Damn. maybe I'll get back to a regular schedule here soon. no promises tho. there are many, many things that need to be taken care of before the old Blog... But since I do have a bit of time, and a few cool things to show off, why don't we do that. First off, a bit of news...

The depths of summer and here in Phoenix, and true to form, it's hot as hell around here. So things slow down a bit as people hit the pool, or the lake, or do some travelling. This tends to be a slow time for us AZ tattooists, as we try to keep the work flowing. But there is some kick ass stuff going on, just around the corner.

The Timeless Ink Tour hits Phoenix, the 13th-15th of july, and The Artistic Crew will be there, showing off what we can do, and rebuilding the reputation of our Shop (not our fault, but we got to fix it anyway)

I should do more of this kind of stuff...
So This first pic here is of some portraits I had done a while ago in pencil, these were to show the clients what I could do. Sadly though, they never even came back to look at the drawing I did. which I felt turned out well enough. This kind of stuff isn't easy either, hours of careful interpretation to ensure that the people in these pics are represented respectfully. Still though, I can always show them off here!

This is a recent piece, still not done, but still solid enough I wanted to show it off. The concept is a flower piece but a bit more graphic than representational. the next session we'll be doing more with the teal flowers underneath everything and building up the contrast in the lillies.

And certainly not least, the Tiki Sleeve I have been working on. first stage of color. This piece will be quite the massive undertaking, the design and color key took about 18 hours for me to compose and draw out.

Well, this is some of the stuff I have been working on (the portraits are old, But I'd really like to do more)
Other than working on the Art, I've been diligently working on Artistic Tattoo with my kick ass crew, as we rebuild one of the oldest shops in Phoenix, and establish a new more professional reputation. I got a couple pics here to show off of the shop as well.

And that is it for this week. Thanks for reading! Perhaps I will be back next thursday with another post. I sure hope so at least.

where have I been?

I've been working on a lot of tattoo projects and managing Artistic Tattoo, it's been a bit time consuming lately, so I havent worried much about trying to post here until I had more time. I dont. but I figured something ought to be put up here.

perhaps a picture or three would be nice...

Sparrows and Pistols.

Luna Moth - Kite, still WIP This piece is a collaboration between myself and Mule, an artist I work with and a long time friend.

This is a Moth designed by Brian Froud, famous for his work on the Dark Crystal, and squished faeries.

A very fun little coverup.

I havent had the time to prep or watermark any pics, so here theses are in the Raw. I don't even have the time to add captions. perhaps I'll do that later. (I added the captions the day after posting this)

Robot Invasion WIP

So here are the sketch and outline pics of George's Robot Invasion aspect of his robo-sleeve. You can see where the original sketches in the previous post influenced the final concept. Done mostly "on the fly" once I was able to talk to George more about the concept and what context he wanted to do the robot sleeve he had in mind, I started drawing it out to as a column composition, staggering the points of interest as the design moved down his arm. Drawn as two seperate compositions, then worked into each other for the main layout. We then narrowed it all down to this drawing, adjusting features a few times, and working out the details as the final composition came to life.

I liked how the buildings separated the scene and gave it some added depth and  atmosphere.

A fun piece tho! I barely noticed I was working. it just felt like good old project style art, and the opportunity to pick a thing and do it all day long.

Taken with my phone cam. Focus sucks, but I hope it get's the point across.
Of course, I will post more on this pieces progress' likely reposting all of this when it's done as a spotlight.
After it's healed, we'll get into shading and blacks. notice only the robots have been hardlined, and the buildings and smoke have been left in a rough stage, this way, when it's healed, I will be able to play with teh focus and intensity of the building and smoke shading, adding more depth to the piece.

As a side note. I'll be posting at odd times, when I have the chance, instead of waiting for the update day, then not having time. Of course, I could premake the posts, work on them through the week, do 'em up all polished and pro and keep a schedule... I know, I thought of it too, it would be great.. But then, in reality, it's just not going to happen that way. Not the way my schedule is now. Not unless I start actually getting some traffic, but I'm content to the few views I get a day, and I certainly enjoy getting to pour my nonsense into the interweb blogospheres. So I'll keep feeding this page as much as I can when I can.

Robot Sketches

Really, at the moment. it's all I got. not much time for the blog at the moment. but dont give up me yet...
